Tadalafil (also known as Cialis) is a medication most commonly used for erectile dysfunction. It may also be used for benign prostatic hypertrophy and pulmonary arterial hypertension, among other indications.

Tadalafil belongs to a class of medications known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Tadalafil is available in several doses that may either be taken as needed for sexual activity or as a daily dose for more spontaneity with sexual activity or for other indications. Many factors affect tadalafil's duration of action. These factors can be grouped into six categories.

• Tadalafil 10 mg treats erectile dysfunction effectively.
• The recommended dose is one tablet daily or as prescribed.
• Tadalafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis.
• Onset of action is usually within 30-60 minutes.
• The effects of 10 mg may last up to 36 hours.

• Do not take tadalafil with nitrates or certain medications.

Age plays a significant role in determining the duration of Cialis. Males aged 65 years or older have a higher exposure to tadalafil compared to younger males, around 25% higher.

Drinking alcohol with Cialis can increase your risk of experiencing side effects, including the dreaded “whiskey dick.” The best way to do this is to avoid any alcohol consumption. But if you typically drink while out on dates or as part of your everyday lifestyle, cutting your intake to one to two small servings can help. If you find it hard to get or maintain an erection after using Cialis, don’t adjust your dosage on your own. Instead, let your healthcare provider know about your concerns. Cialis is a long-lasting ED medication that’s not intended for use more than one time a day. A single dose of Cialis should produce a noticeable improvement in your erections that continues for up to 36 hours. If you don’t notice any improvements after taking your medication, don’t take a second dose of tadalafil. This is due to less medication being cleared orally, allowing more medication to be absorbed in the stomach.

This resulted in a change in the half-life of tadalafil, from an average of 17.5 hours in people under the age of 65 to approximately 22 hours in people aged 65 and older. This half-life may indicate that tadalafil lasts longer in people over 65, but it may also suggest that older individuals are more likely to experience side effects. 2 Methods

Martin Miner is the founder and former co-director of the Men’s Health Center at the Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. He served as Chief of Family and Community Medicine for the Miriam Hospital, a teaching hospital of the Warren Alpert Medical School, from 2008 to 2018. The Men’s Health Center, under his leadership, was the first such center to open in the US. Upon receiving his MD, he completed his residency at Brown University. He practiced family medicine for 23 years, both at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and in private practice. Miner presently holds memberships in the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Rhode Island and Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Urological Association, and he is a fellow of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America. For people with severe kidney disease or who are on dialysis, the as-needed dose should be no more than 5 mg every 72 hours, and once-daily use is not recommended.
